Consider getting a Key Box so the West Barnstable Fire Department can access your home or business.
The WBFD uses a secure key box product known as “Knox Box”. You mount a Knox Box by the door of a house or business and place a key and owner contact info in the box. If the WBFD responds to your house when you are not home, we can open the Knox Box, get your key, open the door, and call you.
The key we use to open the Knox Box is unique to West Barnstable. No other agency has it. Our master is locked in a vault on the ambulance and fire engine, and we cannot open that vault without calling our dispatch center at the Sheriff’s Office and asking for them to send an electronic code to open the vault.
A basic residential Knox Box currently costs $487.
REQUIRED KNOX BOXES: If your home or business has an automatic fire alarm system (AFA) that calls the fire department you are required to have a Knox Box at your house so we can access the house and the alarm system if you are not there.
For more information, call or stop by the fire station.
